Find out more about the Team
Hughie Forsyth
Hi I’m Hughie Forsyth welcome to MODcre81t
So how did I become a model maker?
Well like many of you out there it all began with an Airfix beginners kit as a young boy, however I joined the Royal Engineers in 1986 and served my country for nearly 12 years working in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (Bomb Disposal) which left me no time to do continue with my hobby.
I served in Northern Ireland as a Royal Engineers Search Team specialist and for a short while in Bosnia. I struggled with civilian life after leaving the army and after attempting to take my own life I was diagnosed with complex PTSD in 2005 which was due to my time in Northern Ireland.
I was looked after by an organisation called COMBAT STRESS where I was given the opportunity to make models as a way of processing my trauma and boy did it work. So here I am leading a happy, stable life now and believe it or not I am back working as a Bomb Disposal Technician again after a 27-year break. Making models for me is how I relax and process any stress in my life, and I enjoy recreating other people’s memories in 3D.
So let me tell your story or help you save a precious memory to be displayed for everyone to see. Look at what I have created in my gallery and call, email, message me for a bespoke service.
Matty Forsyth
Hey all! Matty here, son of the infamous Hughie forsyth and the holder of the complete opposite life choices.
In my childhood I very quickly became obsessed with sci-fi and fantasy franchises and slowly grew to enjoy building things such as LEGO and partner franchise Bionicle (for those unaware they were robotic mechanical characters that you would peice together to create a functional and mobile action figure)
this innevitably led me to more precise miniture wargaming, the first of which was GameWorkshop's warhammer franchise. i was drawn into the macarbe universe with all it's lore and factions and truthfully initialy i was terrible at painting and constructing these armies. I took a very long break from minitures and picked it up again in my 20's where with the help of various youtube personalities i dived head first into technique and the finishing process and really started finding my style.
I then moved onto painting full size prop replicas from various games and films which allowed me to hone in material skills such as best types of adhesives to use on what materials, what kind of top coats to use with different brands of paint .ect.
After graduating from University with a Bachelors in Computer science it was only fitting that I began to magic up my own 3d creations using various CAD softwares and printing them on my FDM printer. (Check out the props section in the projects page to see more)
